The most recent iteration of AI advances following the so-called AI Winters of the 80’s and the 90’s has seen a renewed interest in the development of machine learning algorithms with incredible capabilities. This resurgence has also brought to light, once again, the need for regulation to rein in the technology. We are probably not close to any proposals floating out there to become laws, but the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and the subsequent LLMs from competitors has convinced some quarters about the need to do something about the potential harms of AI.
